    Hey guys !

I want to upgrade the ram on my laptop as there's only one 512 mb module that
    came along with it.

Here are the specs of the current module (got the info from Astra 32)

    Hyundai Electronics
    512 MB, DDR2, 533Mhz, SDRAM, SODIMM, 1.8v

I dont know how many pins is the current ram. Astra32 reported the maximum ram size supported to be 4096 MB (4 gb ).

    Here are my queries:

Can this laptop support a DDR2-667Mhz module with 200 pins and the same voltage as the current ram? (1.8v)

Do you think I should be good with a 2 GB kit?

Guys, I am located in Toronto, Canada. The computer service depot nearby asked for $150 dollars for a 2 GB ram upgrade including service and taxes which I thought was too much. Can the memory be upgraded at home?

How much should I be looking at?

    Thanks a million!

DDR2 SODIMMs have 200pins. Yeah, it'll support a DDR2-667 200pin module. Whether you'll be good with 2GB or not, depends upon the tasks you usually run. Heavy, memory-intensive tasks and frequent multi-tasking will benefit from 2GB+ RAM.

You should be good with 3GB RAM, if you want to max it out, since your notebook wont recognise more than 3-3.25GB due to hardware limitations. Memory is user-upgradeable and not very hard. There are service guides on Dell's support site.

I think one of the modules is under the keyboard in Inspirons, which is usually a bit hard to access. If it is that way, you could probably just upgrade one module which is on the underside of the notebook and easily accessible.

Buying online is usually cheaper. I think there is newegg in canada as well, or you could probably just try out Google Shopping.
