    Hi

Recently, the factory IBM travelstar 4200rpm (p/n 07N8368, model: IC25N030ATCS04-0) drive in my Dell Inspiron 8200 packed in. I have gotten hold of a Hitachi Travelstar 7200rpm (P/N 0A28263 model: HTS721060G9AT00).

The interface on the 2 drives is exactly the same and I understand that the 8200 should be capable of running a larger 7200rpm drive as I've seen forums where people have had 100gb+ drives running fine. However, even though I know that the drive has a perfectly working installation of XP pro on it, the laptop does not boot to the Hitachi drive at all. The curser just sits blinking on the startup screen.

Anyone got any suggestions or know of any compatibility issues?

    Thanks

    Andy

Yea, I see compatibility issues. Put the HDD in your notebook and do a clean install of OS. The XP on it right now is configured to work with a different system especially if OEM version of XP.

I assume you had XP so drivers are not the issue?

I thought that, seeing as I currently switch between 3 drives all originally from different machines and with different OS's (xp, 2k, ME) without any issues, then the machine would just boot to the Hitachi drive with only the 'found new hardware' box coming up. But ok I'll put a fresh install on it... cheers

Problem being the OS is on the new hardware? Maybe boot with OS disk support. I am not an expert on this so don't be too drastic I was throwing out thoughts, I am sure others know more.

    Hy there,

I have the same problem and searching since a few days for a solution
to boot the disk. The problem definitly is the jump between PC-bios
and calling the MBR. Have you already fixed your problem?
Is it possible that it is a disk-bios-problem?

    Best regards
