    Hi all,

I'm planning to buy the following system:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7200 (4MB Cache/2.00GHz/667MHz FSB)
1GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHz, 2 Dimm

Dell also provides the following options:

    1GB Shared Single Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 1 DIMM [add $140 or $4/month1]

    2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 533MHZ, 2 DIMM [add $250 or $7/month1]

    (Canadian dollars)

My (very quick) question was: what ram configuration is optimal, if I want to upgrade it in the future? Is the above (non-upgraded) sufficient? I was also curious as to whether you think either of the two ram upgrades are worth it, either for price or in aiding future expandability (i.e. the first upgrade). I'm content to wait and upgrade the ram later (2 gigs), provided this is feasible and that I'm not passing up a deal.

    Thanks,

    Brandon

I'd purchase it with the standard amount of RAM (2x512MB) You can get 2 gigs of 667MHz RAM off www.newegg.com for considerably less than 200 dollars. (All of this is American dollars) For most uses 1GB is plenty of RAM. WHere you'll have problems is if you want to play really demanding games; Oblivion, F.E.A.R., etc. However with the x1400 you won't be turning the settings up to max on any of these games. If I were you i'd wait to upgrade.

Btw, i'm not sure if newegg.com ships to Canada, so if they don't i apologize for the link. It's still cheaper to upgrade aftermarket, regardless.

    Cheers
