My notebok has like 2 dead pixels. Very tiny. I don't really care / think about it. It doesn't bother me. It seems like this might go better in the Hardware forum? I dunno ;)

My Fujitsu had a dead pixel. Just 1. I was able to get a new machine the next day. :)

I had a friend bring my laptop to me. I'm from the US, but living in Taiwan right now. I contacted dell, and they said they could replace it. But because I'm in Taiwan, and the whole warranty thing... it's just not worth the time of transfering my warranty to a Taiwan warranty then getting dell to replace it.

Do you mean dead and/or stuck pixels? Many confuse stuck pixels with dead ones, but both are quite different. Dead pixels are black or white and cannot be fixed whereas stuck pixels are stuck a certain color, mostly red, blue or green and have a chance of being revived back to life.

A used Fujitsu Lifebook P5020D I got from Ebay had over 40 stuck pixels scattered all over the screen, I am not joking here!! I got it send to Fujitsu to get fixed, came back 10 days later and I power on my notebook and the second I get to XP, I notice that a new red stuck pixel popped up smack dab in the middle of the screen!!! I was extremely ****ed off.

I really want to know what the previous owner did to it to have so many stuck pixels!!! Guess thats why he never put pictures of the screen in his listing.

What!? Why didn't Fujitsu send me a new notebook! They only replaced the screen. Maaaannnn......
In fact, I had emailed them several times and asked him if they would also repair some cosmetic damage in which they answered yes but they never did and a new crack actually appeared on one of the hinges! So many people say Fujitsu has excellent service but I was quite dissappointed in them.....

we're talking really really tiny dots here right? Do u have to put them under the microscope to see them or are they quite obvious? I've never worried about them before, but laptopsdirect do an inspection for £36, just wondering if it's worth it?

Depends on the resolution of your screen, but they are quite easily visible. You don't need a microscope at all nor do you need to pay any money.
There's programs out there to test your screen for dead/stuck pixels or you can make your screen display certain colors, mainly black and then see with the naked eye any dots on the screen.

I'm talking about dead pixels. I have 2 white ones and I know I won't tolerate that on my HP laptop. From what I hear, they'll replace your system, but do you need a warranty?

My Toshiba had one red, stuck pixel in the left center when I got it. But it revived itself and went away at some point because after a few months I couldn't find it anymore no matter how hard I dried.

My Dell has Zero. Right from the start.

I have yet to own a laptop that was dead/stuck pixel free. Whether it be Dell, IBM, or Compaq... bad luck I guess.

I had a couple of stuck pixels. But thanks to the dealers zero pixel policy I got a screen replacement!

Just a quick question i recently bought a new Lappy.
I dotn see any Dead Pixels, though i did want to ask a question.
With numerous Laptops Screens i have seen alot the have dark corners. If you know what i mean
The 4 Corners of the laptop screen. The Screen Contrasts are a little darker on one of the corners on my screen. But its not a dead pixel I have seen it on many lappys.
Is this the way the screens sometimes are?

This is just due to uneven backlighting, and usually is greatest near the edges and corners.

And yes this is some what common for laptop screens, it's not a defect in one screen, rather a "problem" with a whole line.

I have one dead pixel on the left side of my screen. It is always black. Didn't really care since I don't notice it so I haven't sent it in.

Nope never had this problem. Most companies (LCD makers anyway) only have warranties for 8 or more so you can have up to 7 dead/stuck pixels and they don't give a ****! Imo they should replace the monitor if even one is found or at least repair it. Alot of companies offer this support for extra but if they offer a 1yr warranty lets say, the monitor should be included.

I have however had my monitor backlighting go out once and recieved a new monitor for it within a week.

Sometimes I see public computers have green patches (discoloration) on the flat-panels. What causes that?

I have an old Toshiba Satellite that is about 4 or 5 years old. I looked at the screen and it only had 1 stuck pixel and that one is the bottom right corner and i don't even see it unless I'm looking for it. the lappy is a little outdated but it is one on the sturdyest pieces of hardware I've ever had. I mean this thing has been dropped few times(only from less than a foot) and I even accidentaly punched the screen once while reaching for something. and still only one stuck pixel. Wow toshiba built this thing pretty sturdy.

My laptop has a nice bright glossy screen with no dead pixels, I'd probably go nuts if it did. If your laptop screen has dead pixels, try tapping them lightly and see if that fixes it.
