I see laptops that come with Santa Rosa (800 MHz FSB), but still use DDR2 667 MHz RAM.

would it be beneficial to upgrade to 800 MHz RAM? or is the performance increase (if any) negligible and not worth the price difference from 667?

i tried to search, but wasn't able to find anything to help answer my question.

The former, the S.R. chipset can't utilize 800mhz RAM, so it downclocks it to 667mhz if you choose to get 800mhz RAM.

from what i understand, an 800 mhz FSB refers to the CPU, not memory speed. i don't think that having santa rosa refers to the ability to employ 800 mhz RAM. either way, the price difference is too great to the slight performance enhancement.

i think the first part of the RAM deals says something about the 667mhz - 800mhz difference.
