Is it better to get a 4GB kit than 2 separate 2GB sticks?

There's no difference as long as you buy 2 of the same.

A 4GB ram kit is 2GB x 2 sticks of RAM, just all in one package, it makes no difference if you buy 2 x 2GB RAM stick separately.

    EDIT: *Yeah, what taelrak said,*

Anyway just to let you know, 4GB RAM is an overkill.

    Thanks for the reply . . .

As far as overkill . . . I find myself upgrading RAM after a year or so on each new notebook . . . just wanted to maximize with the chipset I got in the new machine so I don't have to do it later!

That was the reason I went for 4GB in my new notebook.

I bought two 2GB sticks separately because it was slightly cheaper than buying a kit.
