Hello everyone. I hope the title makes sense. I just ordered an Intel X-18 G2 SSD to put in my HP Envy 15. I would like to know if it's possible to hook the ssd up to an e-sata port or usb port and install the OS and drivers, then boot it up connected externally to make sure that everything runs properly before I open my machine up and install it.

I would like to connect the SSD externally to my old Lenovo SL400 to install the OS, drivers and a few applications since the Envy doesn't have internal optical drive. Is all this possible? I would rather do a clean install than clone the Envy drive with all the crapware. I have an install disk and product key for Win 7 Home Premium 64bit. Thanks for any help that you can provide.

Try the US$14 geeks e-sata/usb enclosure. e-sata being much easier to setup than USB. USB requires special drivers and registry hacks to be able to bootup Windows.

Thanks. Can anyone direct me to some links that might give me some info on creating and installing the OS and drivers as well as booting from the external drive? I have searched but all I come up with is information for USB drives.
