My e1705 that had a t7200 cpu and 2gb ram with vista business runs ALOT faster than my xps 1330 with a t5250, 4gb ram, and vista home premium. My question is why?? Are the processors speed really effecting the laptop that much, or does it have something to do with the OS or what? Thanks Robert

It shouldn't be that much of a difference if your just talking about desktop, office, and multi-tasking speed. How have you concluded that the e1705 is "ALOT" faster than your xps 1330?

You may want to check your system on multiple levels; bloatware, malware & viruses, system temperatures, recently installed programs etc. There's just too many factors and for us to solve the problem you will need to provide more information to us.

Are you talking about boot time than it is primarly HDD fault.

IF your harddisc is full and has alot of applications that start with windows than it would take pretty big amount of time to load windows sometimes 5 times longer than say if HDD was new and had only the OS with no bloatware...

If computer freezes or malfunctions than it is the Ram.
If it slows alot than as mentioned above virus and spyware.
Games(old ones) can also have influence but only on windows appearence..

CPU's primarly process apliccations so if you are talking about Photoshop or Autocad than it is CPU's fault but before coming to this conclusion check if your small XPS is set to "power save mode", that can drastically influence performance...

no, i have the processor set to run 100% in high performance, both computers have fresh copies of the os with plenty of hardrive room and it is slow to boot up, but not too bad, the most noticable thing is when im running internet explorer, pages are really slow to load, my wireless speed is the same and also every song I play in media player or dell direct always skips at the end of the song

That does not sound normal. There is definately something up with your XPS 1330 as it should be handling those tasks quite easily. You should definately run a virus scan or check if your task manager has anything running at 100% CPU load.
