    Could you in-place upgrade a 8700k in a laptop to an i9 9900k, given it is a Z370 mobo?

    Ignoring thermals, I assume it would at least need a bios update like desktop z370 MOBOs.

    There are a few clevo laptops with Prema BIOS that have been said to be able to support the chip, I cant recall which though I think @Papusan is one such individual that my be able to provide more information or at least direct you to someone else that can.

    If you have Prema firmware (bought from Prema partner shop), yees. If not, it will depends on if the company you bought your laptop from offer the needed firmware update or not.

    I believe that @dsanke plans to add support in his free BIOS's, but you'll have to check with him,
    prema has a post up stating that the i9 works in laptops, but of course you need to pay extra for a laptop with it.
    But it should just need a BIOS update if it's a Z370 board, Z170/Z270 seem to not be able to support Coffee Lake refresh as of yet
