Connoisseurs of SSDs know current NAND flash for SSDs comes in 3 varieties — fast, faster, and fastest. These can also be called asynchronous, synchronous, and toggle NAND respectively.

Those users that want the ultimate in SSD performance seek out the fastest SSD controllers paired with the fastest NAND flash. This is why we have paired the SandForce SF-2200 SSD Processor with toggle flash to create the Force Series™ GS line of SSDs.

Any chance of a redesign with a Marvell controller? Sorry, most of us will steer clear of any SF based controller.

Which maker have been problem FREE?

SSDs are still a work in progress.

    Who is "Most Of US"?

Who's buying all these drives with the 2281 and why is it the overwhelming choice of SSD manufacturers?

All of my 2281 drives work and have worked without issue.

Have you had a problem with your 2281 drive or have you never owned one.

The 2281 SanDisk Extreme SSD is the one that has gotten the best owner approval ratings of any SSD sold on Amazon.

Most of us is quite a few members on the forum. SF-2281 had it's share of issues (that have mostly been fixed, even some Intel SF drives are still throwing F4 BSODs in people's faces). By the way out of 5 SSDs i've owned, the only one that decided to die was my SF drive. In short, i got burned by SandForce while Intel and Crucial have been nothing but reliable, YMMV.

The fact that OCZ used SandForce didn't help either, poor customer service, denying the F4 BSOD issue fir quite a while...

I won't tell people not to get a SF drive, but i'll recommend a drive with a Marvell, Intel or Samsung controller over a SF drive any time of the day. I'll also recommend most manufacturers over OCZ too. When SandForce comes with a new controller and if it doesn't suffer from a rather critical issue that will take a long time to fix like what happened with SF-2281, then i'll stop being hesitant about recommending a SF drive.

Like i said before though the F4 BSODs issues have mostly gone away, but aren't completely gone. Anandtech also identified a way to back that controller in a corner, but what it takes to do isn't a scenario a lot of users will run into.

FWIW, as someone new to the SSD scene who has put in a few hours of research, while Ive found a few good SF based drives, more often than not Ive read horror stories about controllers failing, and while forums are a small part of the rest of the world, its a better sample than nothing. Especially when all I see is SF based SSDs being downed and Samsung/Crucial being put on a pedestal, as well as pretty much anything without an SF controller and Asynchronus NAND.

Which controller is the overwhelming choice of SSD manufacturers

Which controller is in the majority of drives sold

Manufacturing fact = more sold = more returned = more reported issues

Who makes and sells the most consumer SSDs = OCZ

Why has even Intel gone to the 2281

The OCZ V4 and Agility 4 have the newer Marvel controller but I don't see anyone else adopting it,even Crucial.

Why did some get BSODs while others didn't

Why will some people always have problems no matter what they buy

SSDs are a work in progress.Believing anything else is wishful thinking

Why does this thread read like WhatsThePoint is doing a Sho'nuff impression?

Volume sold doesn't imply quality. McDonalds sells a lot of food, doesn't mean its product is great.
