hey everybody . i finally got me the sager 5760 souped up to the max . i put a core2duo T7600 in it . been using it for a month and im extremely satisfied with it . its very powerful . however i saw a review of a widow pc which is the exact same as mine . in it , the writer put a benchmark of his CPU using the program CPU-Z , so i downloaded it and tried it just for the heck of it . in the review it displayed the core speed as 2.33 ghz which sounds right . however in my benchmark it displayed 997.5 mhz and wouldn't budge off this reading . could my CPU really be running at less than half speed ?

This is not a problem. It is speedstep working. CPU-Z is reporting the speed at which the CPU is running. If it hasn't got much load then the minimum speed, ~1GHz, is enough. Either temporarily setting the power scheme ot Maximum Performance (remember to reset it to Performance on Demand afterwards) or run something such as Prime95 which gets your computer some serious work to do. Then you should see the reported speed as the maximum (you may need to refresh or restart CPU-Z).

that shud be fine, the cpu goes into a less active mode to conserve power and battery life, you could probably change this somewhat in the power settings schemes. run some cpu intensive program and u will see the cpu jump up to 2.33 .

errr dam cookies didnt see the reply til after i made mine lol

Start running SuperPi while watching that, and see what happens. What'd be nice is if they could clock the cores independently... I hear that's still on the drawing board though.

Good suggestion from Pitabred, try running a benchmarking tool like pc/3dmark or super pi and watch cpu-z while doing so, your cpu should jump up to it's max clock speed. If it doesn't have a look in the bios and any power management software you have and make sure your speedstep settings are not limiting your cpu.
