When you use your HDMI out, your computer is probably "smart" enough to send the audio thru the HDMI also.

So if you go into your audio control panel see if you can change the output back to your normal speakers and then the headphone jack should pick it back up.

Or use the HDMI if you can, should be better quality and if you have a home theater system like me just use the audio out of the TV to the stereo amp.

Also while making sure you have the proper output from the notebook, make sure you have the proper input on the TV, if may default to something while receiving video from a certain source and may or may not allow you to override that.

Try setting the HDMI as standard device for sound in the control panel options in Windows Vista.

The Y-cable will not work for audio, since the TV assumes that when using the HDMI input that the audio will also go through HDMI.

You need to look for options on the Control Panel for audio to change the output to HDMI. It could help if you post the model of your laptop.
