Hello, I'm used to the old cd/dvd trays with the hole you could stick a paper clip in and mechanically eject a disc with the machine off. Searching online it appears there are only procedures for a "stuck" disc, like putting a credit card top and bottom and pulling it out. Nothing is stuck here, I just really like the old feature of being able to retrieve a disc with the machine off with just a paperclip. I use it enough to consider replacing the slot drive.

So, no go simple mechanical method on the slot drives, correct? I briefly messed with some stiff thin cardboard instead of credit cards and it didn't seem feasible as far as ease of use. Maybe construct a primitive wide jawed set of tweezers from thin plastic?
    thanks

When I was on university the best way to annoy Mac users was to put an upside down cd/dvd into the slot, it wouldn't eject any more, so the trick developed by then was a thin ruler and double side tape or folded over tape to make it "double sided", insert it on the top side, press down, pull and they had the cd/dvd out.

ah! that sounds pretty slick, I'll look into it, thanks! Of course the beauty of the pinhole is you could do it 1000 times and nothing would ever touch the disc itself.
