Looking to do a few upgrades or updates to my Inspiron 1520. I like it a lot, but i'm looking for a little more...

    120GB HD 5400 rpm
    1GB RAM DDR2
    Core 2 Duo (1.83GHz/2MB cache/667MHz FSB)
    1395 Wireless mini-card

I've found a few things online that might be interesting, but I'm definitely a noob when it comes to this kinda thing.

    any thoughts??

spot on. here's what you can do:

HDD: up to 500GB@7200rpm or an SSD of your choice.
RAM: up to 8GB DDR2 (if your mobo supports it - otherwise, 4GB).
    CPU: up to 2.33GHZ.
Wifi: up to N-standard (Intel 5300, for example).

Processor can go upto 2.6GHz, and 8GB memory will be possible, if the BIOS supports it.
For the wifi, the 4965AGN will work for sure, but you can try out the higher 53-series AGN cards as well.

What sort of software and applications do your run?

Yep those upgrades should help you supercharge your laptop and help it run better for longer

I am also planning on getting a 500GB 7K drive soon

    Maybe a T9800 in a year :D :D

Someone that knows more about Inspirions will come and tell you is it is supported, or you can search and see if there is an owner's thread

Everyone was a n00b once, nothing to worry about ;)
