I just replaced the hard drive from a 40GB 4200 to a Samsung 80GB 5400. I've had no trouble with the installation however no luck loading.

My Compaq came with restore CDs. First I tried the Compaq Operating Restore CD and it went through it's thing and eventually started windows however the screen was screwed up a little. That's OK I thought so I started the system restore (8CDs) that came with the computer. It completed the first CD and asked for another and then at some point just turned off by itself. I attempted again and it did the same. I retried using the operating restore and it would no longer work either. The computer just kept shutting down.

Can anyone give me some fairly detailed instructions on how to restore the new hard drive to the factory settings?? Any idea why these CD's won't work?

    Cheers
