So I bought this laptop way back in 07, but the heat sensitive buttons have never worked on it. I downloaded the proper drivers for it but they never lit up or did anything. I assumed that it was a connection problem with the unit being soldered or attached poorly. If anyone remembers this laptop it would be great if I could get some help to use these touch buttons.

Check to see that the bar itself is connected properly. You can open it up by prying it off gently. Make sure you don't rip out any cables.

I think the bar is glued in or something, I don't see how I could get it off without taking the computer's case off and look at it from below, and even if I tried that, I don't think it would let me look at the bar connecting to the chip.

Yeah you'd have to take it apart pretty far to get to it from the other side. Try getting a suction cup or something and pulling up on the side of it. I actually discovered how to get the panel off by accident when I fired a nerf dart onto the bar and went to pry it off. Thought I broke the thing lol

It might take a little force but as long as you aren't bending anything too far you should be okay.

Are you sure that there are LEDs there. I have JFL92 and mine are never lit, but they work fine.

I'm not sure if they're suppose to light up or not, but the fact is that they don't do anything at all. I've tried taking the cover off with suction, tape, stronger tape, and by using a screwdriver as a fulcrum and I'm convinced its not coming off ><

Alright, I was able to take off the led cover thingy and I don't see it connected at all, so what am I suppose to stick where to connect it?

Oh good--sounds like a stubborn one. Hope it came off alright.
If I remember right it's toward the center of the bar but on the motherboard. It's a white flat connector that only goes in one way, somewhere around the power button itself.

Though it might not do any harm, try not to "hot-plug" the bar into the board, ie: plug it in/unplug it while it's on.

Yea, I see what you're talking about, There doesn't seem to be a way to connect the two. The port on the led panel has some ridges on the edge that looks like something can connect to it, kinda like how a computer desk drawer fits into the desk. But the flat wire that is suppose to go there is just a flat wire with no attachment on the end of it. Its hard to explain whats going on but there isn't a way to actual connect the two. I'm thinking I need to get a piece for the end of that flat wire, so any idea on how I can get the thing I need?

OMG!!!! I was trying to put it in backwards, There is a small black thing that I tugged on and I thought I broke it so I decided to pull it out more, and I realized a slot opened up to put that flat wire in, AND BY GOD IT WORKS NOW! I have been pissed off and been wondering why the touch panel didn't do any thing for TWO years!! Dtdood, I would do things that are illegal in the US to express my gratitude towards you. Thanks for everything.

Bahahaha that's awesome. Really glad you got it working even with vague instructions! :p
Enjoy the touchpanel! It'll be like a brand new machine. The email and web browser buttons are quite handy. And it lights up blue (the best part)!

No need to do anything illegal for me lol. I think rep is about as far as these forums permit. Happy computing! :)
