This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved.     On website LifeHacker.com, I just came across an article on the specific sounds that an almost defect/dying HDD makes.

    While a lot of folks are familiar with the sound of a dying HDD (and the subsequent need for an immediate backup), some people might be interested to know how their HDD will sound if it's about to die.

    Website Datacent.com offers a collection of sounds made by different HDD vendors.
    If you own a Maxtor, Seagate, Samsung, Hitachi, Toshiba or WD and want to find out what it will sound like if one of your HDD's is about to kick the bucket, check this page.

    And please, don't just use these sounds to scare the hell out of a friend/parent/teacher/prof/etc. ;)
