    I'm selling my laptop and a few HDDs on ebay, are there any tools that can wipe vista user data? I use CCleaner, be great if there are more alternative, just in case one app doesnt properly clean the leftover data.

    Also is there a free app that can erase data off a hard drive, so its unrecoverable?

    Yes. DBAN is an excellent utility for exactly this job. You can download the .ISO from the following link below. You'll have to burn the file to a disk as an .ISO image, and configure your system to boot from the optical drive first. Re-boot your machine and DBAN will automatically load.

    Acronis TrueImage software is another alternative. You don't need to burn a disc or boot from anything.
