Hi everybody. I'm not sure if you guys can help me but I'm going to try. I would like to buy a new laptop but I'm not sure if the one I'm going to buy has a better processor than my current notebook.

I have an Intel Celeron M 1.40 and I would like to buy a netbook which has an Atom 270 - 1.6. I have been trying to compare both processors but I didn't come to any clear conclusion yet.

I would like to use the netbook for browsing and listening music and I know that the Atom 270 can do that. I still want to be sure if it's going to be better or worse than my current processor anyway.

    Thanks a lot!

The Atom will do what you want it to so I would not cross it off you list because it will reduce you options. And I think it gets better battery life with the Atom than the Celeron.

    Hehe, no problem...

As Drummer101 says, the Atom will be MUCH MORE energy efficent, alot cooler too, that's why they made them.

But if you're just gonna websurf and watch movies i'd go for the netbook with the atom! The celeron won't do any much positivt for you anyways, not even if you had a good graphicscard, so you might aswell have the Atom.

Wow guys, you are really better than any technical services. Fast and much more clear.

I wasn't sure because the Celeron is a pretty old model and I didn't find much information about it. So yeah, I think the Atom is still a choice for me. I want a small netbook that I can carry with me everywhere. I mostly use my computer for watching movies, listening music, websurfing, word processor and by chance convert a movie to another format. I hope the Atom can play the YouTube videos without many interruptions.

I'll have to decide by myself now. :)

    Thanks a lot again!

No problem and glad to hear :)

Youtube videos won't be a problem, that's all upto the internet-connection, the browser or youtube's load on the site (if it's overloaded with users it can be that way) :)

I know that you will chose wisely my son ;)

It depends on WHICH 1.4GHz Celeron you have. If you have the Northwood "Mobile Celeron" 1.4GHz, you'll actually see an improvement in performance with the Atom. With the Banias 1.4GHz Celeron M 330, you'll probably be about on par with the Atom and with the Dothan 1.4GHz Celeron M 360, you'll be a little bit faster than the Atom.

Nonetheless, you'll see a significant drop in power consumption in all three cases.

Hello Commander Wolf, I just found out that my processor is the Dothan 1.4GHz Celeron M 360. I didn't know there were different 1.4GHz Celeron processors. Thank you for the information.

And thanks a lot for all your help guys!
