    Hi,
Just installed a new hard drive into my laptop with windows 7 beta. I had planned to pull off the old data off from my old hard drive which I had just removed via a sata to usb cable. Unfortunately, when I connect the sata to usb cable to pc and drive I cannot see the drive in my computer. It does recongnise something when I plug it in and in the devices I see a USB to ata bridge. I thought this would be just a plug and play thing. In disc management I can see Disk 1 but is status is unknown and not initalised. If I try and intialise it it says device not ready.
Can anyone help so that I can pull the info off the old drive.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Just got it going. It would seem that you need to have the power plugged into the hard drive first. Then plug in the usb to the PC then plug the sata cable into the hard drive. That seems to have done it although I was sure I had done that combo before!
