The title says it all. I have tried two different Microsoft mice and one Logitech. All three work on my 1997 vintage Toshiba laptop, but won't work on the new Dell B130. On my Toshiba, I plug them in and they work. On the Dell I have tried loading drivers with CD, uninstall, reinstall, called Logitech, all to no avail. I have concluded it is a software problem with the Dell computer. Any suggestions?

Go to your device manager and look for any hardware that isn't recognized. Also, run Windows Update a couple of times. Did you de-crappify your bloatware also?

Are you sure you didnt get a Bluetooth Mouse rather than a cordless USB mouse?

Did you plug in the USB receiver in the USB port.

Did you install the drivers and follow instructions?

Are you using fresh batteries for the mouse?

And I call shens on them working on a 1997 Toshiba laptop.

    1. It is a USB
    2. C'mon, get serious
    3. Meticulously
    4. Right out of the box...red light on mouse is on.
    5. Windows update is current.

Yes, I de-crapified...went to msconfig and unchecked bunch of junk that was running. I did this after trying to install the mouse. Then after de-crapification, I tried again.I was told by logitech and also by a tech at BestBuy that the mouse should be plug and play...no software is necessary. However, I attempted to install the drivers off a CD. I got an error msg saying that XP doesn't recognize this applicaton and I should stop the installation. then per logitech instructions, I attempted a download of drivers from the logitech webiste...no help.

Computer is 2 months old. I have a case number with Dell...awaiting a reply from them via email.

I have another issue with the touch pad. It is overly sensitive. Just positioning the cursor over a file will open it. i.e. putting the cursor over the send button in email program will send the email...don't have to click. This is not in effect 100% but often enough to be annoying. I have adjusted mouse propertied in Control Panel...no help.

Thank you for your time....any other suggestions appreciated.

Yes, In Control Panel, there are several adjustments one can make. I tried several, but they did not affect the touchpad problem. I don't have that particular notebook in front of me so I can't be specific, but there are adjustments available.

Have you tried plugging something else other than mice to the usb port? USB keyboard, speakers , external hard drive? the USB ports might be the problem.
A friend of mine has that laptop I installed/uninstalled alot of programs in it, and never had any issue with the touchpad. When did this problem ( touchpad, USB ) start? If since you got the laptop, then why wait all this time? Ask DELL to replace/fix it.

    Hello again,
Thank you all for your suggestions. I tried the printer in all three USB ports and it works fine....working on the Dell inquiry.
