Yes it should be able to handle it perfectly. As it has a fast CPU, and an GeForce 7400, it will run Home Premium.

Depending on what applications you run, it may be a big improvement to upgrade to 2GB.

I think Home Basic is a pretty crippled version of Vista. It doesn't include the fancy new Aero Interface. This site has a nice chart comparing the features. I'm sure your computer could handle Home Basic, the question is would you even want it.

Your computer should be capable of running Home Premium, which I have heard is the lowest version you should even consider.

Like Mayz said, upgrading RAM could be beneficial.

Well your notebook has a Nvidia go 7200 not 7400, but you can still run Vista Aero glass. You will need to get Vista Home Premium or Vista Business or obviously Ultimate. Aero Glass is just a theme for Vista but it's pretty nice, home basic does not have it.

Either way you go your computer will run Vista perfectly fine.

1GB of RAM is the recommended amount by Microsoft to run Vista except for Ultimate which has a 2GB recommendation.

Vista Aero (it's called Aero now, not Aero Glass) is a pretty 3D interface that makes a huge difference in my opinion. It makes Vista feel so much better. Take a look at some of the screen shots in this Asus review:

    Definitely avoid Vista Home Basic.

Yes your computer can run Vista without problems as posted. What are the full specifications? You should consider getting more RAM. 1GB is cutting it a little close in my opinion. If you run several applications at one time, your memory usage may go over 1GB.
Of course, you can use a flash memory stick and use Vista's "Ready Boost" feature to improve performance.

Vista Basic is just a stripped down version of Vista to avoid at all costs. You laptop got nuff juice for Vista but you should really get more memory

You can run Vista fine on it. I have it installed on my desktop and the OS uses 512MB of RAM itself so you may benefit from upgrading to 2GB RAM depending on what else you do on the system.
