I recently purchased a Signature Series Sony SA w/ the blue ray i7 6gb ram and all that from Fry's.

I saw the Sony vaio Z screen next to the SA's screen and it was no comparison, the Z's was in a league of it's own.

So, that leaves me wondering, can I upgrade the screen to the one from the Z?

    Thanks!

Yes there are likely some better panels. you have to match the size, aspect ratio, backlight type and probably the brand.

You can go ahead and try to find a better 13.3" LED backlit panel of another brand (assuming thats what you have), but it may not work because sony often uses weird Hitachi LCDs and whitelists stuff (in my experience).

hey lapbooknotetop - I'm thinking of getting the exact same model you have - I'm assuming you got the one with the carbon fiber mesh top ? How do you like it so far ? Is the screen really that bad ?

I was looking at B&H and they have it for $1479 (no tax, no ship) - do you think that's a good price? and do you have any advice about this machine (I was originally going to get the asus ux31 but just can't justify the 4gb max ram and other limitations).. + I like the bluray.

    Sony Signature VAIO SA3 VPCSA3SGX/X 13.3" VPCSA3SGX/X B&H

    Best, Mike

Has anyone tried replacing the screen yet? Does anyone have the model number for the 1600x900 screen? I'm going to ask some of the eBay sellers if the z1 screen has the same connectors.

The Z series both VGN-Z and Z1 have a 13.1" screen, it's not 13.3". It's originally made by Toshiba and the model number starts with LTD131E.... something something and it's LED backlit, aspect 16x9, one plug going to the LCD screen nothing else. I think the old Vaio S-series does the 13.3" screen, look up S-series for compatibility.

Trying to do similar thing (fit the 13.1 inch to a 13.3 laptop)
The Z seris uses the following:

    AUO B131HW02 v0
    13.1'' FHD 96% aRGB

About price....ebay sells at about $400...

My main concern is about the connector, there should be something I can do to fit it to the 13.3 bezel. The only thing I know for now is that the panel mentioned above has a 30 pin interface.

    Hope there is more information.
