If all other factors are nearly equal, would there be noticeable performance difference between these two CPUs? Any difference in heating, or speed?

Example: If you had two laptops with 4 gigs RAM, 250 HD, integrated graphics, etc. and both same OS, would it be hard to tell which one had which CPU in it?

It would depend on what you were doing. Differences in specs are only noticeable when you are maxing out the capabilities of one of them... since you said integrated graphics I assume you're probably not gaming... and probably just doing web/email/word processing, etc. In this case... no, you won't notice a difference.

Based on my personal experience, I would strongly recommend that you to go with the Core 2 Duo; it trumps AMD's aging Turion architecture (are they going to launch a redesign soon?) in every respect: performance per clock, heat ouput, power consumption, etc. Performance is not noticeable between the Core 2 and the X2, but heat output and battery life would produce noticeable differences.

Thanks all. I am doing a good bit of image processing, movie watching, and light gaming. What makes this tough for me to figure is for my sister. If she gets a laptop I think she may be trying to decide between one of the high gloss black Toshibas with an AMD vs. a HP (not one of the DV series though since her budget is probably around $800.00 tops). She will likely either go with BB or CC depending on payment/credit offers. Sorry I don't have more specific data.
