    Hi Guys,

I'm considering upgrading my 6930G with a E8335, I have read that this is a cheap upgrade rather than upgrading with the more expensive T and P series.

What factors do I need to take into consideration with this upgrade, are any members running a E8335 succesfully in a 6930G and how does it perform?

Would I also need a BIOS upgrade?

Unless they've updated the BIOS to accept it, there is a fair chance that the upgrade won't work. There are several threads about running iMac CPUs in other notebooks, but I don't know anyone who has used one in an Acer.

I read somewhere that someone had... Hmmm... There isn't much documentation around about it though... :(

The only viable way is to try it yourself. No one really knows or give you a straight answer until you try it (And I think you're the first). My theory is that it should work. I've upgraded a 5930G's CPU to an E8335 (E0 stepping 35W TDP 2.93Ghz) and as well on a Dell Studio 15. And an Asus G60. No problems on my end. Throttlestop is required to undervolt them as RMclock won't work.

Another somewhat similar example is my Dell Inspiron 1720. Many thought the 45W TDP X9000 will never work in the 1720 (Up to T9500 as offered by Dell) but it did and it ran nice and cool under 55*C on load and managed to have it overclocked to 3.6GHz.

    Good luck.

It'll be cheaper if it works... but seconded - good luck.

You see dude, that's a bit french to me... I have been out of the PC world for a long time now and everything changed so much... I'm not expecting it to "plug'n'play".... But I don't know what you mean when you talk about voltages and whatnot... Unfortunately for me. :p

Ha, I've been there too man. :)

Well to put it simply in a nutshell, you'll have to buy and try the E8335 to see if it works. Anyway I did upgrades with an Aspire 5930G to a E8335, so if that Acer supports it, in theory the 6930G should.
