Is there anything wrong with instead of buying a "2 gb deal (2 sticks)" for like 80$ i buy 2 separate 1gb sticks for 24$ each?

I don't think so. It's a question of whether or not you want to upgrade at some point. If you only have two slots and fill them both, you will have to take on of them out if you want to upgrade later on.

It depends on the RAM speed, latency, and of course, price.

If they are the EXACT same modules, then go for it. But if the more expensive one has better timings and speed, then go for that instead.

    MIke.

First off I want to apologize for the similarity of my threads name. I was writing it before you posted and did not see yours.

Two sticks of RAM of the same size, speed and latency will work fine. If you buy different size sticks a tiny loss in performance if your MoBo supports Dual Channel. If you buy different speed or latency tends to have both operate at the slower speeds but still works fine.

No you do not have to buy the package they want to sell you, just buy two of the same stick separately and they will work as good as anything.

no problem dont worry about it!

    how would i match together a 2gb stick and a 1gb stick?

also, how do i check for the RAM speed and latency? the 677-800mhz is the speed right? more the better? what about latency?

How would you match a 2GB and 1GB, you can't match the size and as I said on newer systems (Intel) tiny drop 3%. If you have notebook fastest RAM you can run is 667Mhz (you can use 800Mhz, but will run at 667Mhz). What is your system, I will tell you what is best. To check speed and latency, Google CPU-Z it is free. It will tell you what you have.
