I bought a dv6500 back in October and chose the standard DVD-RW over the HD-DVD player as the war had not yet finished, but now that it's over, I wonder... can I upgrade my current drive to a Blu-Ray player? I have the upgraded video card (8400M) and plenty of processing power (C2duo, 2.2) and system memory (2 gigs).

Yeah, personally I would say do what I did, get and external BR player and use your bundled PowerDVD software to decode the BR stream.

That way when you sell this laptop and move to a new one the drive comes with you.

Easiest method is to call HP and see if you can purchase the drive from them.
