In Age of Conan I was getting 51 avg FPS on max settings with the laptop screen, hooked up my 24" dell monitor and the FPS dropped to 5-20 avg. Should the loss be that large? Any ideas to prevent the huge drop?

    Thanks for the help

The 24inch monitor's resolution is much larger than (what I'm guessing is) your 17inch laptop monitor. The larger the resolution = less fps. Lower settings or lower the res on the monitor.

While the 24" monitor is hooked in and playing Age of Conan, is your laptop screen on as well?

If you're using the native LCD's resolution, no wonder, that's 1920x1200 compared to whatever your laptop has.
Make sure the game is running on a lower res.

I think it's because the LCD has more pixels than your laptop screen.

My 8600m GT handles the game at 1280x800, High, Shader 2.x, Shadow/Grass off at:

    5-20 Character Creation (WTF?)
    10-30 in Tortage
    10-30 in any major city
    20-50 outside

You should be able to get much, much better framerates than that.

Though I did notice, the first time I played after yesterday's patch, the game went down to 5-10 FPS all around when moving. Rebooted the system and everything was back to normal.

Yeah I would think 8800M GTX Sli should be able to run almost anyways, even at 1920x1200.
