I'm trying to upgrade my wife's rig and want to rid her of the anemic 5400RPM HDD. The catch is, BIOS isn't recognizing the Crucial M500 I'm trying to install.
I'm currently trying to use recovery media with no success, but am considering cloning the HDD though I remain concerned that it won't matter if the new SSD doesn't show up in BIOS. Any input?

Test the SSD in another machine, if at all possible, just to make sure that it is "seen" in BIOS. If it's not...time to return it.

If it does show up in the "other" machine's BIOS, please report back and we'll take it from there.

    Good luck.

See the threads about (re)installation of Windows on Samsung notebooks. The main ones are listed in the General section here.

With a notebook that is from 2011 and also one that is an AMD platform, you may be out of luck.

Have you verified that you have the latest BIOS flashed to the notebook? Have you tried simply initializing the new SSD in another system (or, if you have an external enclosure or a HDD docking bay, you can try using your current notebook)?

If both those options don't yield any positive results, you may want to try an Intel SSD. Much more compatible than any other SSD by a long shot (especially on older systems).

    Good luck.
