A high thread-count microfiber cloth or the corner of your T-shirt. The moment you start spraying chemicals on there, you start leaving residues that need more spraying and more wiping. Paper towels/napkins can work, but could also cause fine scratches that won't buff out.

For every day dust a microfiber cloth is all you need.

If you got food/drink or some other random beyond normal dust material on your screen that wont just wipe off, a bit of rubbing alcohol and water has always worked fine for me.

You can use specialized products as well, but its really not needed.

I avoid rubbing alcohol unless whatever got on there really isn't coming off. Use it too often and the paint starts to crack/fade/peel, depending on the type of paint used. If it's sticky, I go at it with scotch tape or packing tape. Usually works well enough.

No problems here, and my LCD screen is not painted :D (would not be able to see it then)

If you mean for the rest of the laptop, still no problems. I dont clean it very often though as I keep my stuff in pristine condition.

Ah, my brain jumped from cleaning the screen to cleaning the plastics in general. I use the same cloth for both, so it ends up being all the same in my mind.

Good idea to use compressed air to blow off dust prior to using dry micro fiber?

Only if it's from far away, the can is warm, and in very short bursts. I had the unfortunate experience of unwittingly spraying a cold can of compressed air at an unpowered standalone monitor in a long burst, then rubbing it to get the last bits of dust off. When I turned i on, I had spider cracks running all over, concentrated at the point I held it longest.

I dont use compressed air on the screen.

    Reasons:

1.) Cost, they are not too cheap, the cloth does better, gets more uses, and last longer.

2.) It almost never actually does anything, regular canned air is not strong enough to move any stuck dust.

3.) The bit of dust that is not stuck that may blow away may blow into the bezel, or even under the screen coating where you will never get it out.

I used compressed air from a air compressor to clean out the insides of computers, and maybe on other physical parts like keyboard, but never a screen.
