WD5000BEVT if capacity is your priority.

WD3200BEKT if speed is your priority.

    Best performance+relatively large capacity:
    wd3200bekt
    7200.3
    7k320
    Very good performance+largest capacity:
    wd5000bevt

atm that is all i would recommend as i'm not a big fan of the 5400.6 series.

Im fine with 5400 seeing as performance is not a important issue.

The WD5000BEVT looks good (recommended twice). Anywhere where there is worldwide shipping and (of course) cheap prices?

The 500GB 5400 rpm will be faster in read and write then the 160 GB was on density alone.

Just get the best laptop possible with the smallest/cheapest hard drive possible.

Now go buy the best possible hard drive and install it yourself.

Take the original hard drive and put it into an external usb enclosure.

Another recommendation for the Western Digital WD5000BEVT. I just put one in my PS3 and it's been running very cool so far. Love the capacity boost (coming from a 40GB system). I'm buying another to put in my laptop.

$100 from amazon now, but when I bought it they had it for $89.99. It was packaged very well in a box with molded foam "holders". Watching for the price to drop again.

Something else to think about, it has overly positive reviews on newegg and amazon with fewer reports of drive failure than others in that class.

7200.4 is out with a 500GB variant, you might want to look into this. This competes directly with WD Scorpio Blacks in speed, WD has yet to release their 500GB version.
