I like Kingston, Kingmax and Crucial. Corsair is also pretty good.

aphirat you got a corsair 1gb module for 69??????????? WHERE???

I thought that crap cost way more.

Anyhoo' I have Apacer and it did amazingly well in tests against name brands and actually beat them in some tests.

It also costs next to nothing. My nod goes to Apacer. They will all perform similarly so no need to worry about which one to go with for max performance.

Go with the cheapest brand that has a good warranty, like LIFETIME warranty.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I just bought a 1 gig chip of Kingston from ZipZoomFly for $80. It installed with no problems and has my system running nice and fast.

    I would recommend Kingston.

I have 2 x 1GB sticks of OCZ Ultra Performance in my laptop - DDR2-533MHz. Very high quality, although it cost a pretty penny. $112 per module.

Crucial would be my second choice. If I was going for value, then Corsair ValueSelect is my favorite.

I use Kingston KVR's- everyone loves a bargain. Cheap, reliable, and lifetime warranty (which I never had to use).

Chazman- Love the Santa Yoda... awesome. :D

I think crucial does not have too much availible memory options to choose..

As far as I try, there is no ddr2 533 upgrade for HP Pavilion8000z

For my 8510GZ, I just installed 2 1GB sticks of Transcend DDR2 533Mhz. Runs fine. Picked them up from newegg for about $150 for the pair, and there's a $10MIR(although I think you can only use it on one chip). They had a matched set of Mushkin chips for about $160 I think.

I should add...these aren't "the best"...but they have a lifetime warranty and I found a number of threads indicating people had successfully used both of those chips with my laptop, with success. That's what's important. You don't usually adjust the memory timings, do you? If not...then you don't need chips which can run at the faster speeds. You just need chips that are known to be compatible with your exact model and have a decent reputation for quality or lifetime warranty.

    Hehe - Yo-da man!

For the HP dv8000z, you can't put in DDR2, because it's an AMD system - they don't support DDR2 yet. They would have to alter the entire CPU chip in order to do that, because the memory controller is located on-chip. DDR2 isn't bringing the performance increase it was supposed to...

HP sends the dv8000z with DDR333 memory (PC2700). You can put in DDR400 (PC3200), but it will still downclock and run at 333MHz.
