I would like recommendation on a new harddrive for my Dell Precision M65, minimum 160GB and 7200 RPM - I´ve looked at Hitachi and Seagate, but can´t decide which is best ?

    Thanks

Hitachi 7k200 is the fastest at the moment I believe, but Seagate drives are also very good. Hitachi is faster if thats what your mainly after, otherwise either of them will be great

You can easily find out lots of reviews on google, but my preference is Hitachi HDD.

Yep. As a 7K200 owner, I concur with all the above. :)

What about noise ? I read somewhere that Seagate are more quiet than Hitachi ?

If your in a quiet room by yourself, you stop breathing, and put your ear down next to the hdd, you might appreciate a more quiet hdd =)

Considering how much faster Hitachi's 7K200 drive is compared to Seagate's 7200 offering, I"ll gladly take the extra speed and deal with the extra 2db of noise.

Dont worry about the noise the drives are pretty quiet, I have two 7K200's in my Voodoo and I never hear them, even on startup. Then again they are attached to a shock absorbing hdd tray, so they may be louder in other notebooks.

Ok, so a Hitachi 7K200 is the best option for me ?

Seems it has a Serial ATA-150 - would that work for Dell M65 ?

    Thanks
