I'm looking for an SSD for my soon-to-own Lenovo x120e. I have never used an SSD and I would like to try it out on my new ultraportable. Size is not much of a concern for me since I will be mostly using it for note-taking and light gaming/web surfing.

I was looking at the ADATA 64 GB SATA II SSD on Amazon and was considering buying it, but I thought getting more opinions first would be a smarter deicison.

Amazon.com: ADATA Sandforce 2.5-Inch SATA II 3.0Gb/s Internal Solid State Drive: Electronics

Should I look into buying a used SSD since price is a concern for me? I would prefer the price to be around $100, but 32 GB is too small for me.

if size really is not a concern, i would recommend intel 40v. 40GB, probably the most reliable line. I have seen it frequently on sale around 80-100 bucks.

Thanks for the recommendation. I was thinking of throwing World of Warcraft on it which takes up around 20 GB, which is already half of the 40 GB, so I would prefer a 64 GB just to be safe.

I always wondered that as well...I mean even if you do a full re-format/erase isn't there a chance for it to utterly suck still because of the previous owner?

P.S. How about the Corsair F60? Costs $125 new at Amazon.

depends on how heavy the previous owner use it. Though an SE or quick format(for drive support TRIM) would make it like new performance wise. Remaining life, not sure.

    I have a x120e as well. I put a SAMSUNG 470 64gb in it.

It basically made my battery life a max of 8 hours but I usually get 6 hours.

I installed all the ThinkPad utility/drivers from the automatic Update as well as Office 2010 and I still have around 32gb free.

It's an x120e, so subjectively speaking, it wouldn't make much sense to spend a lot on a $400 computer. The Kingston for $70 is a smart choice. Don't go for the "best" SSD for an underpowered netbook.

Aw, I JUST missed the sale for that Kingston SSD. Thanks for all the input guys. I think I will be getting a Samsung 470 when I have the money for it. Are SSD prices expected to drop with the SATA III drives coming out?

I purchased the Kingston V series 128 GB for 219 with a $ 75 rebate. That is real close to a dollar a GB. The 5400 RPM 750 gig that came with system drive had a Windows performance score of 5.9. When I replace dthe HD with the Kingston Vseries 128 GB SSD the score went to 6.7. I eleiminated the virtual disk space on that drive and the windows performance went to 6.9.

Pretty sweet. Don't the V series idle at like 0.5watts?

Wouldn't idling at 1 W be really inefficient and kill my battery life? I have no knowledge in HDDs/SSDs so don't kill me if I'm wrong :)

If it idles at 1 watt it would not be good. Efficient SSDs idle at ~ 0.2-0.5 watt.

I bit the bullet myself and got a Vertex 2... for 4 less gb and 20$ less + 15$ rebate it was not a bad price
