I am looking to purchase an SSD to put into a new laptop shipping soon and would like a 500GB model. I've heard M4s are very reliable, but seem to be much slower. OCZ is faster, but less reliable. I may go with the M4 just based on reliability, but are there other reliable drives with faster speeds?

Corsair Force GT was also of consideration and it's the same price point as the M4.

Is Sandforce still plagued with BSOD?

    Thanks :)

There are only 3 major options for that kind of space for that amount of money; the M4, 830 series or any 480GB SandForce SSD. I'd choose the PM830 over all of the above choices.

Plagued? NO. Still too many issues floating around? YES. Crucial or Samsung all the way. The 830 seems to be the king right now across the board.

My OCZ Vertex4 had been dead reliable, in addition to being fast. It's a new design, but it's not a SandForce like the more problematic Vertex3 and Vertex2 drives.

Its power draw is a little high for an SSD, but still less than an actual HDD.

at the moment, you can get a samsung 512gb for 670$ (buydigg.com). I've been waiting to snag one at $550 like someone posted on craigslist last week (that isn't too far from my current location :/).

Newegg had the Samsung 512 GB SSD for $611.99 shipped and I got one. Had a free coupon to Batman Arkham City which I already have.
