There should be a 7,200RPM 320GB HDD out later this month.

I just bought a western digital 320GB drive. It was between the WD and the hitachi. They are both good drives, so get whichever one. I don't think it makes a huge difference.

Toshiba is very unreliable from reviews I've read. I'm deciding between 320Gb from Western Digital or Hitachi.

How is Western Digital's reliability for laptop hd's?
Is it as good as Hitachi?

Any company with consistent reliability problems would be out of business. Either the customers will stop buying, or the cost of warranty repair will be so high that they could not sustain. The reality is that no matter what anecdotes you read online about how some guy always had some drive fail on him, it doesn't matter.

All that matters is if some independent company does a statistical analysis of drive failures over the course of a few years. The only ones with that data are the manufacturers themselves, and they would never release it. So the only thing "keeping them honest" is the fact that failures cost them money, and capitalism is what drives them.
