    Hi Guys

I'm looking at buying the Toshiba X200 (X205 in USA). I was torn over that and the Dell XPS M1710, but I think the Toshiba is much better value for money as its £1400, compared to a simliar spec M1710 which is £1700. I really dont like the look of the M1710 either.

Anyway, one of the features I like about the Toshiba X200 is that it includes an HDDVD drive. I like that it has HDMI so I could end up using this as an HDDVD player for my telly, and it seems that HDDVD is gaining ground in the HiDef war so this is good.

Still, my main concern is this, can you appreciate the benefits of Hi-Def on a laptop screen? The screen in the X200 is a 1680X1050, so its not 1080P, but should display 1080i. That doesnt matter much to me as 1080P isnt that noticeable on small screens anyway. Can you really appreciate the quality difference from a regular DVD?

    Thanks
Would be great to hear some experience from guys with Blu-Ray or HDDVD laptops.

you cant do 1080i, only 720p, 1080p and 1080 are the same resolution(1920x1080) but they are displayed differently which makes 1080p look better and mroe clear. 720p on a screen that small would look phenomenal though, i can play 1080p on my 60 inch sony and you can deff tell the difference, so i cant imagine how much better it would look on a screen that small.

I'd only recommend it if theres's a HDMI port preferably on the notebook and you have a compatbile tv to plug it into

thanks for the info guys. yeah, the toshiba x200 does come with an HDMI port on the laptop, which is one of the reasons i was attracted to it as not many laptops have HDMI. planning on buying a LCD HDTV soon, so was planning on using it on that.

I did purchase a blu-ray notebook. I did it specifically to backup my data and photos. Having 25 and 50 GB as options is very nice. Whether it's HD DVD or Blu-ray doesn't really matter the fact that it's an easy source for backup is very nice.

The only reason I want Blu-ray to win now is to keep my supply of Blu-ray media out there.

it is a useless feature, half the time you will experience some issues playing your movies cuz of some simple quirk like one of the drivers being outdated or not official and invalidating the ability to play HD movies. im having this issue currenty in my dv9000t but then again i only have one HD-DVD movie and I dont even like it (it came free with the lappy)

we seems to be talking much about Backup and Storage of HDDVD,
BUT the HDDVD-ROM that comes with X205 or dv9000t is just read-only right??
or there is a driver update that turn it into writable to backup things??
