    I need a new battery for my Dell 700m. Seem plenty to choose from at all sorts of prices.

    Any suggestions how I sort the good & safe from the crap & dangerous?

    Go for the proper DELL OEM battery....DO NOT go for generics..!!
    You can opt for the 8-cell 65 WHr battery....

    What's up with generic, do they explode?

    What about smaller laptop vendors, like Clevo. Their batteries aren't branded to begin with.

    they are crap... i've seen users here reporting of having 5 bad batteries in a row,,,, and i've read that almost all of them are SUB-STANDARD.

    buy a battery from your laptop manufacturer... that is the ONLY part i suggest buying from them... but if you read enough posts here about batteries even BRANDED batteries that were not SPECIFICALLY SOLD for thier Specific Model 9 times out of 10 they end up buying a second replacement from the manufacturer
