LPC-Digital has been kind enough to provide ten lucky NBR users a brand spanking new Intel 7260 AC Wi-Fi adapter! I have offered to put them up for grabs and ship them out. LPC-Digital specializes in selling Sager branded Clevo notebooks, but this contest is open for anyone! Larry from LPC-Digital is the primary sales guy/owner of LPC-Digital and is a great guy to work with if you're in the market for a new laptop.

This contest is for USA users only! Sorry, but I can't take the time or extra money to ship these outside of the USA.

THE RULES

In order to enter though, you must follow the rules, otherwise:

1. You must be an NBR member since before August 1, 2014 with more than 10 posts by August 1, 2014, has an active post in the last year, and must not be banned at time of the drawing, and have PM privileges. *NO EXCEPTIONS*
2. You must be legally able to enter and accept gifts form giveaway contests such as this.
3. Winners will have 48 hours to claim their prize otherwise it will go to the next contender.
4. Only one entry and wi-fi card per user, multiple entries will be deleted, and entering more than three times you will be disqualified form the contest.
5. You will be required to provide me with a valid US shipping address at the time you win.
6. Your NBR user name entered into the form must be correct. If I can't PM you I will draw another name.
7. Please make sure the laptop you are buying this for can accept this card, and only enter if you really have a need for the card. This won't be policed, of course, but honesty is the best policy, amirite?
8. You must enter the secret code: Loompa in the form so I know you can read or at least pretend to read the rules.
9. Make a comment in this thread as to why you want to win this wi-fi card (drawing is random, so don't worry).
10. Rules can change at any moment because I'm like that.

I don't need the N 2230 since I'm fairly sure the N 7260 (non-AC) is higher-end. Save your money and just put the N 2230 on eBay or something.

And to be honest, I don't have a need for it. I even voluntarily switched from a 5300 AGN to a Broadcom 1390 G and gave the 5300 to a friend for peanuts, because I didn't actually see any benefit in practice from the N over the G.

I am curious though, do half-height cards generally work in laptops designed for full-height cards? I'd reckon they probably would if the antennae were long enough, but I'm not sure if it would work great in practice since they couldn't be secured in place with screws (or clasps like full-height cards use). And since I don't need faster WiFi, I'll let someone else be the guinea pig.

Note that I don't accept peanuts as payment for all items, sorry to those hoping to send me peanuts for gear.

This would be a nice upgrade for the old 1558.

 

Change of plans. I contacted Acer technical support and they informed me if I change the WiFi card and later something (other than the WiFi card) breaks, I have to put back in the old WiFi card before sending it to the repair service. Even if something such as memory or hard drive breaks.

The warranty lasts for two years, so I have to hold onto the N 7260 card for that duration.

So hold on to it then. I don't know that they'd ever even notice. Only thing I'd be concerned with is if you send it in due to some major malfunction and they replace the motherboard or just send you a refurb unit with your current HDD then you'd lose your AC card. But it's really only about a $30 card so not like it's the end of the world.

Well I entered. Curious how it stacks up against the atheros 9380

 

Really hoping I can win one of these. My Killer Wireless 1103 is the worst wifi card I've ever dealt with. I've had my NP9150 for a year and a half, and I've never been able to keep a connection with it. Any time I'm in a class, the connection just stops, and stays off for however long it feels like. In fact, I'm typing this on my phone, because the wifi on the laptop quit and hasn't worked for the past 30 minutes. I probably should not have put up with this for so long, but hopefully now I can actually have wifi on my laptop!

 

My stock qualcomm atheros 1x1 802.11n works intermittently and when it does work it is painfully slow.

A 7260AC would save me from using USB tethering all the time which is sometimes plagued when my phone reboots at random while tethered.

Congrats to all the winners.

This wireless card should be used on the 5ghz band and paired with a quality AC router to get the best performance from it.

On the 2.4ghz band performance can be less than stellar.

Visit the 7260 thread in the Networking and Wireless forum for a lot more info about the AC-7260 and user experiences using it.

 

The cards shipped out yesterday. They will come in a 3M yellow bubble mailer with a hard cardboard mailer inside that the card is inside (in its plastic case). Shipped first class mail, should reach most of you by Friday hopefully. Congrats and enjoy!

I'll be at a wedding Friday/Saturday, but can grab it Sunday or Monday.

 

Stupid post office returned them back to me yesterday saying there wasn't enough postage even though they told me ahead of time what postage I needed to put on them. But got all that sorted out and they definitely went in the mail yesterday. So it may be delayed a day or two, sorry about that. Hopefully still make it to many of you by the weekend, and in most places they deliver Saturdays too.
