    Hi guys,
before posting this thread I looked in several other forums but did not find the exact solution to my problem.

I recently got a lenovo SL500 and immediately downgraded it to XP Pro, following the step-by-step guide that Arki has posted here. At the end, even after installing all the existent drivers for the SL500, there were two showing up in yellow in the Device Manager under 'Other Devices':

    - Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus, and
    - 'unknown device' right below the former.

Since the audio in my laptop was working fine, I did not care about that little detail at that moment. But after using the laptop for some time, I have come to realize that the speaker volume is significantly low than it was when I first bought the computer... I can say that because I stayed with Windows Vista for a couple of days before kicking it off of my HD and the sound could be pretty loud.

Hopping from place to place looking for an answer, I read that it could be either a Kernell problem (which I have no idea how deal with), or a driver problem. So I started downloading and installing several different drivers that were suggested by people having a similar problem, but none of those worked for me.

The Audio drivers I downloaded were:
    7ka114ww.exe (Leonvo Japan, Inc.)
kb888111xp2en.exe (I could not install this one because I have Service Pack 3 and this is for Service Pack 2)
q7aud10us13.exe (Realtek Audio codec ALC888&ALC662 driver for XP)
    WDM_R214.exe (also a Realtek driver)
(I do not have the links from where I got all those, but all of them came from the Lenovo website, except one of the Realtek drivers, that came from the Realtek website).

Currently, although I have access to 'volume controls', these are limited, the audio quality is not good, and particularly annoying, the volume is very low (even for music played directly from a CD)...

I wanted to know if there is anyone having a similar problem and a way to solve it. I am currently running WXP Pro SP3 on the SL500 I mentioned above.
    Any help is much appreciated.
