    OH!!

It is a bit annoying that Crearive only make that sound card for PCMCIA.

You can get the Audigy 2 NX external USB sound card. If you just want better sound, you can pick up a cheap USB audio adapter.

Other than that, it is impossible to upgrade the sound chip . . it is integrated into the motherboard. No laptops have a dedicated audio solution.

I probably wouldn't buy that, it looks a bit cheap.

Get a decent one made by creative - otherwise its not going to be any better than the one in your laptop already

At least with Creative, it seems to disable the onboard sound card for you. That sound card would certaintly give you sound other than from you laptop, but I am not sure about the quality. May want to see if you can find some reviews on it online.

All the USB audio adapters I searched on Ebay were all about that price range, they are all cheap. And the question is do I need to disable the current sound card in order to use a new one?

I did mention above that creative disables onboard audio for you. I would imagine the USB ones work the same.

Another option you might consider is a USB headset. I have a Logitech one that's excellent for gaming. It's also cheaper than an external card solution and takes up less space.

I was looking for an alternative sound solution myself. I have Windows XP and Ubuntu Linux installed but sound didn't work on Ubuntu. I thought about getting the PCMCIA Audigy 2zx sound card but I couldn't justify the cost. Then, it dawned on me that the USB headset doesn't rely on the internal sound. It worked perfectly.
