I ordered 2x2GB Kingston@667 for my U6. I am aware of the 32 bit barrier and of the PAE system. I plan to go on Vista Business 64 later on but until then I want to use the 4GB on Vista 32. I researched on the web and I did not find an exact answer to my question. Here goes...

At the moment, I have 2+1 GB@667. Will my new 2x2 GB dual channel setup yield better performance than the 1x2 one? I am aware I might loose up to 1 gig of memory on the new setup but will the two GB banks give at least the same performance? Will there be a drop in bandwidth?

If you're using Vista 32, I highly doubt there will be any performance difference (at least real life, noticeable differences) from a 2+1 setup to a 2+2 configuration. I'd recommend sticking with the 2+1 and only purchase a 2+2 when you are about to install Vista 64.

    You won't notice anything.

There are a couple of bandwidth benchmarks in the DDR2/DDR3 RAM Guide (By PP), and they showed that on an average there was a 4% drop in bandwidth from symmetric to asymmetric Dual Channel.

Thanks for the quick reply. I had a very good deal, considering the huge prices in Europe for RAM, so I will have them tomorrow morning.

Does anyone know someone with a laptop like mine, or similar, with a 64 bit OS?

Search for DDR2/DDR3 RAM Guide. I remember there were a couple of benchmarks posted by John Ratsey.

I got them and I replaced the ones I had. Sandra confirms there is an improvement. Not a lot but there is :p.

L.E: My laptop is significantly faster with the new rams. I thought the difference was not noticeable on a 32 bit system.
L.E.2: Has anyone tried the PAE switch in Vista?
