Has anybody actually managed to actually see a core i5 with switchable graphics in operation anywhere yet? I may be wrong here but, even at CES 2010, I dont remember Intel actually exhibiting switchable graphics in action. We were told about the feature, but nobody got to see the actual switching taking place on a notebook. My understanding was that Intel had announced that this feature would not be available initially and it might be a couple of months until Intel and the various OEM's and Nividia and AMD had sorted out all the niggles. So perhaps this is why this feature is in all the marketing literature but has just not been enabled yet on any notebooks I have seen. Then there is all this business about the pm55 chipset not supporting the feature, in addition to motherborads needing rewiring to connect their displays to two separate gpus.

My advice is if you want an Arrandale based notebook with switchable graphics, wait until you have seen it confirmed to be working in a retail model of the notebook model you are interested in. At the moment there appears to be some confusion and I would not buy into all the promises coming from the reps and marketing literature. See it working with your own eyes first, cos right now, it seems to be a minefield out there.

I was really thinking of switchable graphics on ARRANDALE, ie between the integrated arrandale gpu(core i5 and dual core i7) and a discrete gpu, rather than the older systems from nvidia etc.

Yes, I've been wondering this myself for while actually. I hope they get it sorted out soon, it's a great feature. I could have something like a Clevo X8100, yet when I'm not gaming, I could get 3 hours+ battery life on an 18.4".

The Sony Vaio Z does this with Core i5/i7 and Nvidia 330m, it will be out very soon. New Lenovo's also do this, and are for sale now.

It might also be worth waiting for the coming Lenovo Ideapad V360/V460...

Just search for it. Asus ul30jt
It uses corei7 620Um or 640UM and the new chipset as well.
