I've been considering buying a new laptop, but of course ..im cheap lol Was wondering if anybody out there new if its possible to just change out my motherboard to something with a better chipset? This intel 945 is horrible. Also running T5500 1.67 ghz and 2 gigs ram. Its a Acer Aspire 5630. Any help and suggestions would be a great help!

Sorry, but with the cost to swap out the motherboard with CPU, you'd be better off with a cheap $400-$500 laptop, that would probably be much faster and probably come with Intel 4500MHD graphics which are much much better than 945 (GMA 950). Plus any hard drive that comes with it will probably be bigger and faster.

I doubt ur going to find a better motherboard for the laptop and even the price won't be worth it... Your better off buying a new laptop...

Yeah, I always find projects like that fun too. But only if I could get a motherboard really cheap or free. If you wanted to just have fun, maybe look on eBay for a similar model laptop with a broken screen or something, that is newer with a faster CPU and maybe swap it out.

If you want to play Call of Duty, I'm assuming Modern Warfare 1 or 2? Those take a decent powered machine to play, although anything with a dedicated GPU (not Intel) should work reasonably well, if you can live with dropping detail a little bit.

might as well get any cheap lappy with an i3 or i5 proc, since the new GMA HD is simply awesome for Intel integrated graphics (lol). That'll run COD MW2 fine.

slightly OT: btw sean, i see you always recommend the G73. are you going to get one yourself?

i would love too lol but here in the UK they're like $2500+ USD and i don't have cash now... Best way and cheapest is to import from US using xoticpc.com or gentechpc.com... but first i need to find a job... also need to do well in exams in june so parents will buy for me otherwise...

seriously i hate this Dv5... cry...

P.S : On thinking , i would not recommend the OP get any laptop with gaming in mind with an integrated intel GPU... they're are crap and seriously , some games won't work unless u have an ATI or NVDIA card...
