    Hello everybody.

I have recently upgraded my cpu to an i7 - 2960 XM and noticed that there is some throttling every now and then.

I have repaired the cpu and still seems like it is running quite hot.

    :-(

Searching on the net I came across this heatsink ...
    Dell Alienware M18x Cooling Heatsink DP/N: 0MXJ5, 00MXJ5

My question is if the above heatsink could help my heating issue and if it would fit and work fine on my laptop....

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,

it won't work.. If you have a 2960XM, you have to use some good thermal Paste.. I'd suggest either IC Diamond and Gelid GC Extreme.. Also prop up the laptop for better cooling.. Also how are you ocing? OC through XTU and not through the BIOS as the voltages in the BIOS OC is too high for what's needed..

    Hello.
    Thanks for the answer...
I will give it a shot to the thermal paste you mentioned.
What do you mean by ´prop up the laptop for better coolin´ ? Clean it up ?
    No I haven´t yet OC.

    Thanks again.

    Kind regards.

Hi, Clean the fans for sure.. The R3/R4 collect a lot of dust.

When I mean prop up the laptop, I mean lift it of the surface of the desk.. People use bottlecaps to do this or some books.. I would suggest a Notepal U3 cooler but beware, it puts your notebook at a steep angle and I honestly didn't like it..

My current paste and cleaned vents have meant my temps are fine.. What I do when I play games is to set my fans to a manual speed of 4000rpm use Hwinfo 64.. To do this, install HWinfo64, open the sensors tab, look at the bottom left where there is a small fan icon next to a timer.. Click on the fan icon and it opens your fan controls. move the Fan 1&2 slider to 4000 and set manual.. Once finished with games, just go back here and click system auto.. You can set Hwinfo 64 to start at start up in the settings.. There is also a way to manaually set you fans speeds according to temps using the custom auto for which the EC settings needs to be disabled in Hwinfo64 settings.. Read up about this awesome programme..
