I noticed a notebook option for an auto & airline power plug, a separate plug for each. I know the auto plug fits into the cigarette lighter, but I never knew airlines provided power receptacles of any kind. Do most airlines provide power receptacles?

Airlines only put power outlets at the premium economy and higher class seats, though I think a few might offer them at all seats now (not a clue which ones though). To my understanding airplanes just have 12V cigarette lighter sockets, so if there are two connections I imagine one would be for standard AC 110/230V wall sockets and the other for auto/air.

No not true, many years ago you can already get an economy seat with power, depends on the plane you're flying in, the bigger planes for international flights normally do, and only like 2-3 rows of the economy class have them, so you have to make a request in advance, there is no extra charge or fee.

And no, the plug is not the same as the 12V cigarette lighter car sockets, it's a smaller one. I bought one from Targus like 5 years ago for my old laptop and it comes with both plugs for the car and plane, but they're not the same.

Cleaner05, it really depends on the plane, and don't expect to get them in those smaller national flight planes for economy class though. Just call the airline when you book the ticket and ask about the plane model, and you can also check the plane model on the airline's website, the will have a complete chart about which rows have power.

And even if there are power sockets in economy class, you will have trouble finding space to use your notebook unless it is a small one (10 - 13" size) or you are in the front row.

Gee, I thought it not unusual to use a 15" screen in any seat.

Maybe you travel on airlines with the seats further apart than I'm accustomed to. When seats are upright it's do-able but when the person in front reclines their seat then they push the notebook's screen into your face.

I have flew a few times form Amsterdam to America and even on those international flights you hardly have space for a laptop luckly airlines provide those buildin tv's nowadays. I have seen people using laptops though but if the moran infront of you decides he is going to sleep and puts his chair back your screwed :p

also never seen those plugs(also not in the newer airbuses) for power just get a good battery or buy a spare one
