I just ordered a Latitude e5430 from the Dell Outlet that has everything I'm looking for in a computer. My only concern is that my experience with an e6420 taught me that the 1600x900 panels, while nice and bright, have poor contrast and look a bit washed out. I'm coming from a D830 with the 1920x1200 display, so the poor contrast is disappointing.

I know that poos contrast and viewing angles are standard for 14 inch displays, but it seems like there are at least two computers that buck this trend--the Alienware M14x (glossy) and the Thinkpad X1 Cartbon. Does anyone know if I would be able to take an OEM panel from either of these and transplant it into my e5430? Besides resolution and video cables, what do I need to look at to determine whether an LCD will work with my computer?

    Thanks.

You should spend some time over in the X1C thread over at the Lenovo forum, where all the old women rag on the X1C screen. It's fairly unusual for one LCD to work in another machine. If you're going form HD to HD+ that could be a problem due to the cable.

As ZaZ pointed out, it's rather difficult/unlikely to find another OEM screen that will fit or conform to another OEM's laptop. Aside from resolution and cabling, you also need to consider physical dimensions, screw locations, and whether the inverter will power the lamp adequately or not.
