    Hi guys :)

im new here. i came here after researching upgrading my msi gt70 20c. i found this thread:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-official-msi-gt60-70-970m-980m-upgrade-thread.765058/

This guy seems very knowledgeable. I have bought this to put in my gt70:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161877175852?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I have also bought the new triple bar heatsink that comes with this gpu and is specifically for an msi machine.

My question is, is this a str8 pull and swap, if so can i d/l the official gtx 870m driver from nvidia (as they have just released a new driver for black ops 3) , or do i need a modded driver? if i need the modded driver, do i need a modded ini. file (whatever that is) and will it play the latest games like the new official driver? do i need a bigger fan? will the voltage be ok or do i need to somehow increase it or will the new gpu do it for me?

Any other advice (if i missed anything) would be greatly appreciated. This is like learning a new language

    tyvm in advance guys ;)

Your best bet would be to post this question in the MSI sub-forum.

That thread you linked in your post seems to be the go-to guide for this stuff. Based on what I saw in that thread, it looks like you have quite the job in front of you. You'll need to modify the heatsink, BIOS, custom drivers, etc. Because this is so specific to the exact make/model of the laptop and video card you're using, I'd actually say that you'll pretty much be on your own for this; unless you're lucky enough to find someone that has done the exact upgrade you're looking to do, and is knowledgeable enough to write a detailed guide for you.

Another option is this... it might be worth finding out the value of your current laptop, and consider shopping for a new laptop with the specs you want. That way, you free yourself of having to do this work, with zero risk of anything going horribly wrong and bricking your laptop and/or new GPU.

    thanks for the reply.

the guy who sold me the card said it would be direct plug and play, without need for modded drivers etc.....!

the new heatsink fits my machine, as its specifically an msi machine/ gpu , hence the gpu should work ok without modded files.

but after seeing that thread i felt i should ask.

i will let you know what happens.
