I have spoke to the makers of my laptop and they confirmed I can add a second 9800m GTX in Sli but they are saying they would have to do it. Is this true or are they saying this to get the extra business?

you can do it yourself, it's not that hard. of course, the manufacturer will just refuse to ship you the card, so why ask? :)

I think you can buy the 9800mGTX slave card from RJTECH,
you may want to send them an email

you can get the second 9800M GTX from pretty much any Clevo vendor... just order it through them directly and say its a second card so that they will give you the SLI kit:
    - the Nvidia 9800M GTX card
    - the heatsink/fan assembly
    - the SLI bridge cable

I am pretty sure your system doesnt support SLI.
You can upgrade to the GTX280M or the FX2700M, but you cant add a second graphics card

    what you mean by this?

Clearly, you can buy a Clevo D901C with only one GPU card and add the 2nd card for SLI later.

    Wait, is your XPS M1730 = Clevo D901C ?

Anyway, this Sager reseller store in Indonesia offers GPU MXM cards:

    http://www.rakitnotebook.com/web/shop/productlist.php?cid=MjE=

And below are posts from K-Tron and Gophn about adding 2nd MXM card to make SLI setup in Clevo D901C:

NO.... the Clevo D901C is NOT a Del XPS M1730

    .... they are different notebooks.

I thought the OP was referring to having a Clevo D901C.

    which beg the question:
Who is the ODM of Dell XPS M1730? And what model?
Is it Arima W-series (like W840-DI in Alienware M17)?

The XPS1730 is made by Quanta for Dell,
It is different than OCZ, and different than Clevo

In no way shape or form is the XPS1730 even similar to the D901C
The SLI for the 1730 is a cartridge which has both cards on it, very different than the D901C

The link you sent me seems its only for 1 88m or 98m 512mb card. Also the card costs almost 1 million of what currency I dont know. Any news or blog site showing adding a SLI card in clevo?

The currency is Indonesian Rupiah (US$1 = IDR 12,000).

You buy the MXM card just as you buy the GPU card in a desktop PC.
You can setup for 1 card only and add the 2nd later, or straight to SLI setup.

Go to the Clevo sub-forum and read the Clevo Guide by Gophn.
Download the Clevo D901C manual too if you want, to understand why Clevo D901C can use single or dual GPU setup.

Well since whizzo said that no other laptops other than the D901C has the 9800M GTX SLI, currently the M1730 has that GPU config as of this month in Asia.
You see in some countries the XPS M1730 has the 9800M GTX SLI option. And the 8800M GTX SLI option is long gone, leaving only the 9800M GT and GTX SLI options.

Dell UK I think is one of those. The GTX hasn't hit the Dell.us as yet.

EDIT: Sorry if I made anything unclear here in my previous post. :( that's what I originally meant.

And in regards to topic, no the M571TU doesn't support SLI. One card option only. A single GTX 280M is one upgrade; possibly.

Cheers for all the knowledge people, maybe an upgrade to the GTX 280M in the future then, or hopefully the next series of graphics card may be compatible???

    no need to hope.

The Clevo M570ETU (aka. Rock Xtreme 780, Sager NP5797, etc...) is already taking pre-orders for the GTX 280M.

so you can upgrade to that videocard if you want with no issues.

I'm not sure if the upgrade from 9800m GTX to GTX 280m would be worth the money judging from what I've read review wise. I was thinking to wait and see what will be out after the 200 series and see if it was possible to upgrade to that. I know that could be along way off but maybe a little bit of patients would pay off....

If you already use 9800M GTX, 280M is not an urgent upgrade, IMHO.
