    Quick question:

My previous DV2000 melted so I sent it in... long story short HP told me to keep my 65watt power brick, so I did. They then sent me a 90watt power brick to use with my DV2500 replacement. The 65watt plug does not fit into my laptop, but it does fit into my HP quick dock. Basically, my question is this, will using a 65watt power brick on the DV2500 cause me any hardware damage?

Not sure why they sent me a 90watt brick in the first place to be honest, considering the only difference between the DV2000 and the DV2500 is an upgraded GPU (7200 vs 8400) and a new CPU (core 2 duo).

Personally, I don't think it would cause any damage because if anything, it's sending less power.... but then maybe it will be drawing more power than the brick can handle leading to a cataclysmic failure in the brick causing the laptop itself to explode...lol.

    Thanks guys.

It appears that they send a new PSU because the connector was different.

If you have an integrated GPU then 65W should be fine. At worst, the battery won't charge as fast as with a bigger PSU.

    Thanks John!

I looked at the power information under the battery bay and it seems that it needs 4.5 volts as opposed to the 3.8 that the 65watt adapter is pumping out. The 90 watt adapter as you may have guessed is giving 4.5 volts....

Actually I have the nvidia 8400... hmm.

Using the 65watt adapter to power the quickdock, which will also be used to power some usb devices seems a little.... scary I don't know. But I guess you are right, at worst everything will just be a little less powerful. I doubt the extra devices will cause too much strain on the brick. I think. lol.

The 65W PSU may be struggling if you put both the CPU and GPU under full load and have a few peripherals plugged in.

Is it possible to contact HP, and ask them for a power supply which will work with your system. They could have sent you someone else's power brick by accident.

I wouldnt mess with different power supplies, because you could cause electrical damage to teh system.
